Day-by-day itinerary
- Day 1: Nairobi to the Maasai Mara Pickup at 07:00 from your Nairobi hotel, home or JKIA. Stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. About 5 to 6 hours to the Mara, with lunch at camp. Game drive from 16:00 until the gates close at sunset, when lions start to move. Dinner and overnight at camp.
- Day 2: Sunrise drive and back to Nairobi Game drive from 06:30, the best light and the most active cats of the day. Breakfast at camp. Depart at 10:00 and arrive in Nairobi around 17:00, with drop-off at your hotel or JKIA.

What you will see
Maasai Mara
Lion prides, cheetah on the open plain, leopard along the Talek and Mara rivers, elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile. From July to October the wildebeest and zebra herds of the Great Migration graze the reserve.
Best time to go
Any month works. July to October puts you in the reserve with the Great Migration. January to March brings lower lodge rates and the USD 100 Mara fee.

Can I do this safari as a day trip?
The Mara is about 5 to 6 hours from Nairobi by road, so one night in the Mara is the shortest trip that gives you real game-drive time.
Can I fly instead of driving?
Yes. Ask for the fly-in Maasai Mara safari. Flights from Wilson Airport cut the road time.
