Day-by-day itinerary
- Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu Pickup at 07:00, about 6 hours north. Afternoon drive along the Ewaso Nyiro river.
- Day 2: Full day in Samburu The Samburu Special Five, elephant and lion.
- Day 3: Samburu to Ol Pejeta Rhino drive and the chimpanzee sanctuary.
- Day 4: Ol Pejeta to Lake Nakuru Cross the equator at Nanyuki. Afternoon on the flamingo shore.
- Day 5: Lake Nakuru to the Maasai Mara Rhino at sunrise, then the Mara for the evening drive.
- Days 6 and 7: Maasai Mara Two full days on the plains with picnic lunches, the Mara River and the big cats.
- Day 8: Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha Morning drive, then Naivasha. Afternoon boat ride among the hippos.
- Day 9: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli Optional Hell's Gate cycle, then south to Amboseli for the evening.
- Day 10: Full day in Amboseli Kilimanjaro at sunrise and the swamp elephants.
- Day 11: Amboseli to Tsavo West Mzima Springs in the afternoon.
- Day 12: Tsavo West to Tsavo East Red-dust elephants on the afternoon drive.

What you will see
Samburu
The Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx and gerenuk. Elephant and lion along the Ewaso Nyiro river.
Ol Pejeta
Black and white rhino, the chimpanzee sanctuary, lion and the Big Five on the Laikipia plateau under Mount Kenya.
Lake Nakuru
White and black rhino inside a fenced sanctuary, Rothschild giraffe, lion, buffalo, and pink flamingos and pelicans along the shore.
Maasai Mara
Lion prides, cheetah on the open plain, leopard along the Talek and Mara rivers, elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile. From July to October the wildebeest and zebra herds of the Great Migration graze the reserve.
Lake Naivasha
Hippo pods from the boat, fish eagles, and giraffe, zebra and wildebeest you can walk among on Crescent Island.
Amboseli
Big elephant families walking the swamps under Mount Kilimanjaro, plus lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippo and more than 400 bird species.
Tsavo
Red-dust elephants, lion, buffalo, the Mzima Springs hippos in Tsavo West and wide open bush in Tsavo East.
Diani Beach
White sand on the Indian Ocean, warm water, snorkelling at Kisite marine park and dhow trips.
Best time to go
Plan for July to October to include the migration in the Mara, or January to March for dry roads and lower rates. Add beach nights at the end as you like.

Is 14 days too much driving?
The route moves in short legs of 2 to 6 hours, with full days in Samburu, the Mara, Amboseli and on the beach. Flights can replace the longest legs on request.
Can I shorten it?
Yes. Drop the north for the 10-day safari and beach, or the coast for the 7-day Samburu, Ol Pejeta and Mara.
Do I need different clothes for the coast?
Yes. Pack light beachwear for Diani. Mornings in Samburu, Ol Pejeta and the Mara are cool.
