The Great Migration is a year-round loop between Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara. The herds usually enter the Mara between late June and July, Mara River crossings peak in August and September, and the herds head south again in October and November.

Planning tips
- Book August and September 12 to 18 months ahead. The best camps fill first.
- The Mara Triangle has controlled vehicle access and prime crossing points. Private conservancies have fewer vehicles and allow night drives.
- Plan at least two full days in the Mara: crossings are not on a timetable.
